Today a group of mainly butterfly class children came out onto the playing field to plant a special grape vine (Mrs Woods are new class teacher had made this suggestion). The vine ties in with the beautiful vine we have on our R.E display in the hall.
The children dug a large hole added compost and lifted the vine plant from its pot, it was carefully put in the hole, then a wooden sectioned box was placed around it to protect the roots and stem from the weather. Children filled the box with more compost and feed, then we carefully tied in its grape laden branches with twine, we hope that it will wind its self along the fence in front of explorers, and give us lots of grapes in the future. The grape variety is Muscat with black glossy grapes.
The children later in the week added some daffodil bulbs to the wooden box to give some spring colour when the grape vine had no foliage on its branches.
