Computing

The advance of technology is based on making it fit in so that you don’t really even notice it, so it’s part of everyday life – Bill Gates

At St Nicholas, we want our children to be confident in their use of a range of technologies with the ability to use a range of devices and programs and a clear understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of using these, including practical, social and safety aspects.

We aim to:

  • Give children the skills to use a range of digital devices and programs
  • Give children the knowledge to use online and office resources effectively and safely and responsibly

Implementation

Teachers model safe and responsible use of technology, giving children the opportunity to develop their skills in ICT lessons and other areas of the curriculum.

  • Children have weekly lessons in computing.
  • Opportunities are given in ICT across four main areas- Technology in our lives, Multimedia, Data handling and Programming.
  • E-safety is taught discretely in lessons and modelled through all ICT lessons.
  • Opportunities to use ICT are taken across the curriculum.

Impact

  • Children are competent and confident users of a range of technologies
  • Children know how to be responsible and safe when using technologies, and what to do if they are worried.
  • Children are able to use technology creatively and in a range of contexts, including finding and presenting information.
  • Children are aware of how technology is used and is developing around the world.
